How it works

Three simple steps

1

Add your subjects

Enter each subject with its grade (1.00–5.00) and number of units.

2

Calculate

Click Calculate GWA. The tool multiplies grade × units, adds them up and divides by total units.

3

Read your result

See your GWA, total units, and whether you are in Latin honors range.

Remember: on the Philippine scale, lower is better — 1.00 is the highest grade and 5.00 means failed. A GWA of 1.75 or better is usually Cum Laude range, but every university sets its own exact cutoffs.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

GWA stands for General Weighted Average. It is the weighted average of all your grades in a semester or school year, where each grade is weighted by its number of units. In the Philippines, 1.00 is the highest grade and 5.00 means failed.

Multiply each subject grade by its units, add all the results, then divide by your total units. Example: (1.25 × 3) + (2.00 × 3) = 9.75, divided by 6 units = 1.63 GWA. Use the calculator above — it does this for you.

Yes. On the Philippine 1.00–5.00 scale, 1.00 is the best grade and 5.00 is failing, so a lower GWA is better. This is the opposite of the 4.00 GPA scale used in the US, where higher is better.

Typically, Summa Cum Laude is 1.20 or better, Magna Cum Laude is 1.45 or better, and Cum Laude is 1.75 or better. Exact cutoffs, residency rules and no-failing-grade requirements vary by university — check your school handbook.

Yes. The same weighted-average formula applies in Senior High School. Add your subjects with their grades and units above — the SHS and semester/cumulative results use the same calculation.

GWA is the Philippine weighted average on a 1.00–5.00 scale (1.00 is best). GPA is usually on a 4.00 scale (4.00 is best). They measure the same idea — your average grade — on opposite scales. See the GWA to GPA converter for an approximate conversion.
