Summa Cum Laude1.20 or betterHighest honor

Cum Laude1.75 or betterThird honor

These are the cutoffs most often quoted in the Philippines (the UP standard). Many universities use them, but not all — some set stricter cutoffs or add conditions.

More than a number

Most schools add conditions beyond the GWA: no failing grade (5.00) in any subject, a minimum number of units taken at the school, and completion within the prescribed years. Dean's Lister is different — it is usually a per-semester honor (often 1.75 or better in that semester, with its own grade requirements), while Latin honors use your whole-course GWA at graduation.

Check your handbook. PUP, NU, UP and other schools each publish their own Latin honors and Dean's Lister rules. The checker above uses the typical cutoffs as a guide — your school's registrar has the final say.

Compute your cumulative GWA across all semesters with the GWA formula (grade × units ÷ total units), then compare it with the cutoffs on this page. Latin honors use your whole-course GWA, not one semester.

Yes. Cutoffs, residency requirements, the number of units you must take at the school, and no-failing-grade rules all vary. PUP, NU, UP and other schools each publish their own rules — always check your school handbook.
